Recurrent Pregnancy Loss

Recurrent pregnancy loss is when there have been two successive miscarriages or pregnancy losses. A miscarriage is emotionally stressful for the couple and takes a physical toll on the woman. Underlying causes of miscarriage can be chromosomal abnormalities in the embryo, abnormality in the uterus (fibroid or septum), local infection, progesterone deficiency, and clotting factors. Sometimes miscarriages go unnoticed, appearing to be a delayed or unusually heavy period. It is estimated that 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage.

Extensive testing is required to rule out the reasons for recurrent miscarriage sometimes miscarriages are unexplained, with every lab test and ultrasound appearing normal.

At Eastern Harmony Clinic, our program for miscarriage prevention involves getting our patients as healthy as possible prior to conception and maintaining that health throughout pregnancy.

This is done via acupuncture, herbal supplements, nutrition, and recommendations for lifestyle changes. The goal is to regulate menstrual cycles which  can affect your ability to conceive and stay pregnant, improve the quality of nutrition and increase blood flow, balance hormones and reduce the impact of stress on the reproductive system.

We recommend weekly acupuncture treatments through the first 12 weeks of pregnancy at minimum, then monthly until the last month before the due date, when we start ramping treatments again to prepare for delivery.
